Mail Room Operative
We are currently looking to recruit staff to join our Mail Room and Scanning department as Mail Room Operatives. We are currently looking to recruit people to join us on a casual basis to support our seasonal peaks which occur around Spring, late Autumn, and Winter. This role would be ideal for someone who has other commitments who would like the opportunity to earn extra money through the year, such as students.
What’s the role?
Our Mail Room and Scanning department are a highly important part of our operation and actively feed work to many of our other departments in their day-to-day work. The department and role can be very fast paced, requiring the sorting and opening of up to 20,000 pieces of inbound mail on a daily basis during peak periods.
The role involves sorting inbound mail, opening post and creating batches ready for scanning. Incoming mail is then scanned, consisting of donation forms and order forms for goods and associated payments in the form of cheques or debit/credit cards. You will then be required to validate scanned forms to ensure forms and payment types are matching. You will also check payments processed by other colleagues to ensure accuracy and validity before payments are submitted to the bank.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for people that have high levels of attention to detail, with the ability to maintain this while working at pace in a fast-moving department. You will be highly numerate and able to identify and rectify errors swiftly and efficiently. You will be working as part of a team, so we are looking for a great team player who has good communication skills, both verbal and written. Given the busy nature of the department, you will be able to manage and prioritise your own workload and be able to work well under pressure, maintaining calm.
You will be familiar with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Ideally, you will have experience of using post-opening and scanning equipment, however, this is not essential as training will be provided.
What will I get in return?
We offer competitive hourly rates and development and progression opportunities for the right people. Working in our newly renovated offices, you’ll also benefit from free on-site parking and access to our on-site gym.
